The Social Security Corporation app serves insured people, retirees and employers across Jordan. I redesigned its home experience around one question: what does this person need to know and do right now?

01 / THE CHALLENGE

A public service is
never one state.

Two people opening the same app can be in completely different situations: active coverage, a retirement request under review, stopped contributions, an overdue voluntary payment, or no connection at all. A one-size home screen can't serve all of them. The job was to keep the next step obvious for each of them — without hiding the rules that matter.

Fourteen realities.

Instead of one screen, I designed a home that reshapes itself around the member's situation. Same structure, different priorities — each scenario documented with when it appears and exactly what changes.

03 / DESIGNED AS A SPEC

Every scenario,
explained for the team.

Each screen ships with its reasoning: when it appears, what changes compared to the reference state, and the condition engineering uses to trigger it. Design decisions stay visible after handoff.

KEY DECISION

Retirement used to be the first number people saw: "26 years left until mandatory retirement." Accurate, but discouraging and impossible to act on. I moved it into a single calm entry — "When can I retire?" — whose result opens in a sheet, only when the member asks.

04 / DUE AMOUNTS

Every amount
explains itself.

"You owe 455 JD" is where confusion starts. The redesigned breakdown splits the total into items, each with its reason in plain words, its reference, and the right action for that item: pay now, split into installments, or object.

05 / INSIDE THE APP: RETIREMENT ESTIMATOR

"When can I retire?"
Six steps to an answer.

The calm "When can I retire?" entry on the home screen opens a full estimator. Retirement law is dense — contribution counts, early-retirement deductions, dependants, partial months — so the flow pre-fills what the corporation already knows, asks only for a date and dependants, and shows the math behind the final number.

A single regulation from the central bank can trigger a risk assessment, a self-assessment in several departments, an internal examination and a change request — each owned by different people with different permissions. The design had to make that chain navigable.

From a vague worry
to a score.

Adding risk to a regulation opens a side drawer instead of a new page, so the record stays in view. Impact is split into reputational, legal and financial risk; mitigation into existing policies, controls and IT. The platform calculates the residual risk from both.

The Jordan Social Registry is the national platform through which families apply for social protection — cash support, health insurance, housing, energy support and more. Its users are often under financial stress, and many have limited literacy. Every screen has to respect that.

01 / THE CHALLENGE

The system knows a lot.
The citizen shouldn't have to.

A family's record already lives across national registries — civil status, social security, land, vehicles, commercial records. Yet applying for support traditionally means re-entering all of it, guessing whether you qualify, and waiting without knowing why. The challenge was to make a complex, rules-heavy government system feel humane to someone who may be reading slowly, in a difficult moment.

Show, don't hide.

The family profile shows what each registry reports — vehicles, land, businesses — and names the source. Empty sections aren't blank: they say what was checked and where to correct it if it's wrong.

01 / THE PROBLEM

A date that doesn't fit.
No good way to change it.

Waiting lists for UK practical driving tests are long. Learners book whatever date they can get — and then life changes. Some are ready months early; others need more practice. Under the new DVSA rules, the old workarounds no longer apply. What was missing was a safe, rule-abiding way for two learners with opposite needs to find each other.

Is this allowed?

Learners are anxious about losing a test they waited months for. Compliance has to be felt, not footnoted.

02 / EFFORT

Will it take forever?

Listing a slot must be faster than refreshing a booking site.

03 / CLARITY

What happens next?

The swap itself happens with DVSA. The product has to make that hand-off obvious.

The hero answers the two questions every learner arrives with — can I move my date? and is it safe? — before anything else. Compliance, pricing model, ratings and "we never touch your booking" sit directly under the call to action.

Government portals grow one service at a time. Each ministry adds its own forms, labels and flows, and the citizen pays for the inconsistency. The assessment reviewed the live platform end to end and turned observations into a prioritised, evidence-linked plan the ministry could act on.

Two screens
to do one thing.

Logging in took two pages: an entry screen whose only job was a button, then the actual form — which also carried account-activation links that belong to a different journey.

"Activate by bank account" and "via eSchool" distract people who already have an account. Minimalist design · match with user goal.

"Username or email" doesn't match how citizens identify themselves to government. Recommend National ID / passport number. Match with the real world.

A large fixed image takes ~50% of the width, shrinking forms and breaking RTL/LTR balance. Aesthetic & minimalist design.

VEHICLE LICENCE REPLACEMENT

"تدخّل" isn't an action

A button labelled "intervene" next to theft and court documents. Replace with clear verbs — Attach document, Add details — and group fields into sections.

PURCHASE PERMITS

Legal jargon in the menu

"Natural person" becomes "Individuals", and two near-identical services merge into one with an in-form choice: personally or via a lawyer.

NON-CONVICTION CERTIFICATE

"Pay" without a price

Expatriates were asked to pay without seeing the fee or what happens next. Show the amount, processing time and the embassy step before payment.

DRIVING LICENCE RENEWAL

The warning hid at the end

A fine for wrong data was buried at the bottom of a long photo-instruction paragraph. Break instructions into steps; surface warnings early.

Same home for everyone

A static dashboard for every citizen. Recommend editable quick links, recents, in-progress requests and notification preferences.
